Orbital motors are low-speed, high-torque hydraulic motors designed to convert hydraulic energy into continuous rotary motion with maximum efficiency, even at reduced speeds. Their operating principle is based on a gerotor mechanism (an inner rotor orbiting eccentrically inside an outer toothed ring) where the generated torque is directly proportional to the differential pressure and motor displacement, delivering high torque without the need for external mechanical reducers.
Thanks to their compact and inherently simple architecture, orbital motors are among the most versatile components in hydraulic systems: they are widely used in agricultural, forestry, mobile, and industrial applications, wherever compact dimensions, competitive costs, and long operational life are required. Their ability to operate reliably even with low-viscosity or moderately contaminated fluids makes them particularly suitable for demanding working environments.
At fluid-hub, you will find a wide selection of orbital motors designed to deliver:
High torque at low speeds, ensured by the direct relationship between operating pressure and displacement, ideal for direct drives on wheels, conveyors, and mixing devices.
Compact size and flexible installation, with a design that easily fits confined spaces and various system configurations, reducing the complexity of mechanical transmission.
High volumetric efficiency, even at low rotational speeds, thanks to the optimised gerotor coupling geometry that minimises internal flow losses.
Good resistance to radial and axial loads, allowing direct mounting of pulleys, sprockets, or wheels without additional bearings in many configurations.
Easy maintenance and long service life, due to the reduced number of moving parts and the inherent robustness of the orbital mechanism.
Each motor is designed to meet specific application requirements: from mobile machinery locomotion to the automation of complex industrial systems. Discover also our gear motors, piston motors, and vane motors to find the best technology for your application.
Orbital motors are frequently paired with directional on-off valves for controlling the direction of rotation and operating speed. For hydraulic connection of the motors to the circuit, see also our range of fittings.
